Open News Spotlight

Editorial policy

Open News Spotlight aims to make news-reading choices easier to inspect. Accuracy, clear sourcing and a visible distinction between fact and interpretation guide our editorial work.

Accuracy and sources

We check factual statements against suitable source material and link claims to the evidence available for them when publishing. We distinguish direct statements from inference, identify meaningful uncertainty and avoid implying that an example proves more than it does. We do not invent sources, quotations or reporting.

Independence and partnerships

Editorial decisions remain separate from commercial arrangements. Any paid, sponsored or partner material is clearly labelled where it appears so readers can distinguish it from editorial work. A partnership does not guarantee favourable coverage or editorial approval.

Corrections

If a published item contains an error, readers can contact us through the Contact page with the relevant wording and supporting detail. We review credible correction requests and amend confirmed errors clearly, taking care not to silently change a material point.

Illustrations

Some illustrations on the site may be AI-generated. Illustrations are not evidence for a news claim; we identify AI-generated images where they are used and could otherwise be mistaken for documentary imagery.

Our point of view

A headline is a starting point, not the whole story.

We look for the source, the scope of each claim and the details that can change its meaning. Readers should be able to see what is known and what remains open.
